Đurić: Serbian people want Community of Serbian Municipalities

April 16, 2015

Following talks held with EU officials in Brussels, Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić said that he conveyed to his interlocutors the desire of the Serbian people from Kosovo-Metohija to have the Community of Serbian Municipalities formed as soon as possible.

There is an overriding desire on the part of the citizens of Serbian nationality for this issue to be resolved as soon as possible, Marko Đurić told the reporters after meeting with the closest associates of EU High Representative of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

Đurić said that he conveyed the profound concerns of Belgrade, but also of the Serbian people in Kosovo, about the deteriorating security situation and a series of grave incidents in the north of Kosovo.

Đurić additionally briefed the associates of HR Mogherini on the developments which clearly indicate that Priština is seriously procrastinating the delivery of its obligations of the Brussels Agreement.

"Not only is there a delay in the establishment of the CSM, but the decisions concerning energy, telecoms and air traffic are also being postponed", Đurić said.

He announced that the Serbian government will soon prepare a comprehensive report on progress achieved in the normalization process, intended primarily for the citizens of Serbia.

"Our objective is to be transparent about everything done so far, in order to avoid the situation where things agreed in Brussels stay in Brussels," Đurić said.

Earlier today Đurić discussed with the officials of the European Commission the wave of refugees from Kosovo which flooded Serbia over the recent months, as well as the measures that Serbian authorities have undertaken to put a stop to it.

"We’ve received a lot of understanding and praise from the European Commission", Đurić said.
