Djurić: Brussels to solve the truck blockade problem

March 30, 2016

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić, told RTS that the Serbian Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vučić, will visit Kosovo and Metohija on Sunday, April 3, stressing this will represent strong support for the people in this area during these tough and unstable times. He pointed out that no one is preventing any truck with any substance to enter Serbia Proper and what Priština is doing has nothing to do with the economy or rational behavior.

“Prime Minister will meet with Trepča miners in Leposavić, and he will visit Kosovska Mitrovica. I believe that for the people in that area, this represents strong support in these tough and unstable times”, Djurić said.

For seven days, no vehicles carrying hazardous materials, including petroleum products, from Serbia Proper, have entered into Kosovo and Metohija due to reciprocity measures and Djurić says that what is happening with the trucks no longer makes any sense.

“We are not preventing anybody’s truck carrying any kind of material to enter into Serbia Proper, we haven’t interfered with Priština’s trucks. I am asking EU representatives how long will they tolerate this unilateral blockade that is harming both the economy and the citizens”, Marko Djurić stressed.

He says Priština has crossed all lines and entered the zone of unacceptable behavior.

“We certainly have limits to our patients and will not watch silently. The story on reciprocal measures is made up. We are letting through trucks from Priština all the time in the most normal way, and will not wait silently for our interests to be trampled, and there is little scope for solving this problem”, Djurić said.

He says that this has nothing to do with the economy or with rational behavior.

“We call on them once again to solve the problem they created themselves”, Djurić said.

He added that the status change for the University of Kosovska Mitrovica is not in plan.

“We are proud of the University of Kosovska Mitrovica and of 12,000 students learning and working. Nothing will be changed and we will continue to support this University which is the backbone of our future in Kosovo and Metohija”, Djurić pointed out.
