Bogdan Mitrović, who was arrested on August 28 in Kosovo and Metohija, was released from custody today. On the occasion of his release, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić, stated that Mitrović was not supposed to even be behind bars.

“Bogdan Mitrović was placed behind bars only because he is a Serb and because they attempted to usurp his property. His release was the result of great commitment of his entire defense team and the great commitment of the Prime Minister and the entire team”, Djurić said.

He pointed out that “there was not a single meeting”, held with some of the high-level European or international officials, wherein President Vučić did not raise this issue reiterating that he will not stop until the justice is met and until Bogdan Mitrović is released from custody.

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija declared that Mitrović was not supposed to be placed behind bars and that he was arrested solely because he was a Serb.

“His wife, children and grandchildren were not supposed to watch him being dragged in brutal manner with a hood over his head by special police units wearing masks, violating his human rights, in an unknown direction. They were not supposed to watch an innocent man spend the next 4.5 months in a detention center’s department for worst criminals, just because he is a Serb”, Djurić stressed.

He called for the release of other political prisoners – Darko Tasić from Prizren, Zoran Vukotić from Vučitrn, and “all others who are behind bars just because they are Serbs”.

“Just like we did not stop fighting until Bogdan Mitrović was released to freedom, we will not stop until all injustices done to our people have been amended”, Djurić declared.

Bogdan Mitrović was arrested on August 28 of last year in Mušutište, by being taken away from a group of internally displaced Serbs who were visiting their houses and the demolished Church of the Holy Virgin in that village.
