Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić met today with the SRSG and Head of UNMIK Farid Zarif to discuss the current political and security situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
Director Đurić said that the Republic of Serbia continues to be vitally interested in the stability of the province and normalization of relations between Belgrade and Priština, as well as in advancing the position of the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija.
Marko Đurić also informed the SRSG that the continuation of the political dialogue in Brussels is scheduled for August 25, and stressed the importance of the full implementation of the First Agreement and establishment of the Community of Serbian Municipalities.
Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija informed the Head of UNMIK about Belgrade's opposition to the self-proclaimed independent state of Kosovo’s bid for the membership in UNESCO. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction that the draft law on cultural heritage has been withdrawn from the PISG Assembly in Priština.
The outgoing SRSG Farid Zarif, to whom this was a farewell visit with regard to the mandate in Kosovo and Metohija, expressed satisfaction that the authorities in Belgrade and Pristina seek to ameliorate the economic situation in Kosovo, the situation in the field of human rights and to make progress in the fight against corruption.
Director Đurić thanked the SRSG Farid Zarif for his constructive engagement during his tenure as the Special Representative of the UNSG and the head of UNMIK, and presented him with a parting gift, an exclusive monograph in English "Christian Heritage of Kosovo and Metohija".
