Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić met today with the Acting Head of Mission of EULEX Bernd Tran and congratulated him on his appointment.
Tran briefed Đurić on the objectives of his two-year term in EULEX.
Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated that operation of EULEX is essential for Serbia and the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
"We believe that only EULEX , operating at full capacity, can guarantee security of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, especially in the current situation where there are numerous problems regarding the rights of Serbs in terms of their property and safety of person," Đurić said.
Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija expressed concern over the treatment that Serbs receive before the courts of law in Kosovo and Metohija, stressing that additional steps must be taken to ensure that legal security of the Serbs is guaranteed.
Đurić specifically underscored the case of Oliver Ivanović and four Serbs who still remain in custody following the recent arrests made near Peć, and also pointed to the inability of the Serbs to protect their property before the courts in Kosovo and Metohija as a chronic problem.
