The exhibition "Kosovo and Metohija - 10 Steps", showcasing historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of Serbia’s southern province, is slated to take place at the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris, France in early September 2017.
"The exhibition seeks to bolster our defense of our membership in UNESCO and demonstrate our opposition to abducting a part of Serbian territory. Our intention is to show the decision-makers some of the most impressive traces of Serbian culture in Kosovo and Metohija", Marko Đurić, director of the government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija, one of the exhibition organizers, told Tanjug.
The exhibition, which opens on 6 September and will last nearly two weeks, includes material written by Serbian historians, archaeologists, art historians, as well as photos. Relying on modern artistic and technical methods, it will showcase the development of culture in Kosovo and Metohija from the antique times to 20th century.
Đurić expects that "Kosovo and Metohija - 10 Steps" will attract the attention of cultural, diplomatic and political public in Paris, and reaffirm the fact that medieval cultural and religious heritage of Kosovo and Metohija is Serbian, in light of the attempts of the Albanians to present it as their own for the needs of Kosovo's bid for UNESCO membership.
Should anyone vote in favor of Kosovo’s admission to UNESCO, despite the documentary evidence and historical facts, after this exhibition they would do so contrary to the truth and to the Europe's Christian culture, Đurić stated.
Kosovo’s bid to become a member of UNESCO, sponsored by Albania, was foiled in November 2016.
A renewed attempt is expected next year, at the UNESCO General Conference.
