Vučić: Dialogue leads into the future, not conflicts

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, expects an open, realistic, rational and smart approach to the internal dialogue on Kosovo and Metohija that leads us to the future, not conflicts.

Aleksandar Vučić

In a statement to reporters in UN headquarters, where he spoke at today’s General Assembly session, the President of Serbia stressed that we cannot live exclusively in the mythical past, as we also must not give up on what we still have in our own hands.

“The dialogue has already started in Serbia. Many are already giving their view on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, many politicians, institutions. The church came out with its views many times. It is our job to institutionalize this even more, to conduct such discussions and dialogue in a serious way, through concentric circles”, Vučić explained.

“I will give my view at the end, when I hear from all participants. Perhaps I will add something to it, or amend it partially under the influence of the dialogue. I only believe we should have a realistic, rational, and smart approach that leads us to the future, and not to conflict”, the President of Serbia said.

He said that during the dialogue, those who say that Kosovo will never be independent should be heard, as well as those who have a completely opposite position.

“Everyone has the right to make a statement on their position. I will not run away from responsibility for the toughest issues Serbia is faced with, I will not run away from giving my view and opinion, when everyone is heard from, by the end of the year”, Vučić said.

Vučić: If I was Pacolli, I would not boast

“I wouldn’t easily bet on those 15 or 20 countries as Behxhet Pacolli had today”, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stressed today in New York regarding the statement made by Deputy Prime Minister of the Provincial Government, that Priština has enough votes for joining UNESCO.

Vučić said that Serbian authorities have already analyzed all of Pacolli’s encounters, and said we were even present for some of them.

“We disagree on this with the Americans. They recognized the independence of Kosovo and are helping them collect votes for joining UNESCO. We have the opposite view on this issue, but Americans are an important partner of Serbia.

Without them, there is no solution whatsoever to any issue in the modern world”, he stressed ahead of the meeting with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Elizabeth Millard.

“We will fight for our country, our Serbia, and it remains to be seen if we will succeed in this. If I was Pacolli, I would not boast so much. I love it when people don’t look before they leap, but we will see how this will play out”, Vučić said.

He stressed that it will be difficult because “their co-sponsors are the most powerful countries in the world”.

“These are not the efforts of Albanians from Kosovo, but of Americans, British and many others. We will fight with the strength we have, with as much willpower and justice we carry within ourselves, we will fight for our country and try to preserve our sanctities in Kosovo and Metohija and our people”, Vučić stressed.

The President of Serbia pointed out that this is an issue of churches and monasteries and that the entire cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija is Serbian, thus the ones that have destroyed, demolished and burned it, cannot keep it safe.

“That is our position, we will fight and whatever happens, happens. I wouldn’t easily bet on those 15 or 20 countries as Behxhet Pacolli had today”, Vučić concluded.
