Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić, declared today that the State of Serbia will help its people in Kosovo and Metohija who were recently affected by floods.
Djurić briefed that the teams are on the ground and that the commissions are taking stock, and that the State of Serbia will compensate the damage sustained by the people.
“Even though this is not an area under our full jurisdiction, we have established an emergency situation headquarters tasked with resolving these issues, and I think it is very important for the people that the commission for compensation of damage is already on the ground, and that the State of Serbia is going to help people affected by floods, although we cannot effectively exercise the power”, Djurić stated in Prilužje, after the ceremony of donation of a SUV to the Social Welfare Center in this village.
He recalled that the region was affected by floods a few days ago when rivers Sitnica and Lab overflew their banks, seriously endangering nearby homes, and the water spilled into the basements of some houses.
“Around 120 houses in this area were hit. We are working – the teams deployed on the stricken ground yesterday and today, the commissions are taking stock. The State of Serbia will compensate the damage to the people whose property was hit. I think it is vital for the people that the commission for the compensation of damage is already engaged, and that the State of Serbia, despite the fact that it cannot directly exercise her power, will help the people hit by the flood. The Office representatives are presently visiting this area and we are certainly going to address this problem”, Djurić concluded.
